Representative Frederick Meek (D-17 FL) has introduced the Federal Correctional Workers Safety Act of 2008 (H.R. 5674). H.R. 5674 would require the Bureau of Prisons to provide a secured storage area for Bureau of Prisons (BoP) employees to store their personal firearms. The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 previously provided BoP employees the right to carry personal firearms to and from prison facilities, but the lack of secure storage areas has prevented them from exercising this right.
